Curriculum

The New National Curriculum came into effect from September 2014 and has given us a fantastic opportunity to re-visit our curriculum objectives. At Wayland Junior Academy we aim to promote a thirst for knowledge and a love of learning. We want our children to be happy, enthusiastic and curious learners.

We are building a curriculum which aims to:

  • Engage all children including those with SEN, EAL and high attainers.

  • Explore themes in a practical, cross curricular and active approach wherever possible with opportunities for outdoor learning.

  • Challenge and inspire our children to be the best they can be.

  • Encourage our children to explore, investigate and collaborate.

  • Improve children’s attitudes to learning and develops their confidence as learners.

  • Promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our children as well as give opportunities to foster an understanding of British Values.

  • Cover all key skills and embed them across the National Curriculum.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the National Curriculum which includes: English, Mathematics, Science, Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, a Foreign Language and Religious Education.

Children are also taught Personal, Social, Health and Emotional aspects of learning during PSHE time. This teaches children about themselves, their own feelings and how to get on with those around them.
